Did you know frozen yogurt contains live and active cultures of bacteria, lactobacillus bacteria to be exact. Now now – don’t be too disgusted! This bacteria is important in the production of yogurt and actually present throughout your body. They actually play an important role in your digestive tract! They help digest your food, keep your intestinal lining healthy and help fend off unhealthy bacterial strands.

Your digestive tract actually works better when there’s a healthy population of beneficial bacteria around. Don’t run off and start telling everyone bacteria’s good for you! Only certain types are – especially the type in frozen yogurt. Eating a serving daily actually helps replenish your body with essential lactobacillus bacteria – so stop by for a serving!

Did you know that the “frozen” in frozen yogurt actually helps preserve bacteria for you? That’s right, freezing yogurt doesn’t kill off the beneficial bacteria, it just suspends them in an inactive state. As the yogurt warms up in your cup (or your mouth!), they reactivate, ready to help your body!

And remember – not all frozen yogurt contains live, active cultures. Unless it states so, it probably doesn’t – which means all the benefits of the lactobacillus bacteria are virtually non-existent! Be sure you know what you’re getting.

70% of the population can’t eat dairy products without getting an upset stomach. Are you lactose intolerant too? Unfortunately, yogurt isn’t 100% lactose-free because it’s made from real milk, which contains lactose naturally. But the cultures used to make yogurt help break down lactose, making yogurt much more bearable for the lactose intolerant. The stomach discomfort that you usually get with milk or ice-cream is much less, maybe even non-existent with yogurt.

What’s more? The same bacteria in yogurt that helps with digestion, is also helpful to lactose intolerant people. The live and active cultures in our yogurt actually help your body break down lactose. Many other frozen yogurt options are repasteurized. This kills active cultures and eliminates the healthy benefits of bacteria in yogurt. Be sure you know what you’re eating. Or just be safe and have some Yoway!

Calcium is key to maintaining lifelong bone health. It helps maintain bone density – preventing osteoporosis. Unfortunately, the body doesn’t product calcium naturally. That’s why it’s important to ensure you’re getting enough calcium in your diet. One little 4oz cup of our yogurt can provide as much as 20% of your daily calcium needs. But we know many of you get more than that!

Some other facts about calcium and your body:

Your body absorbs calcium better when taken through food vs. supplements. And dairy products (like yogurt) is a great source of calcium that your body can easily absorb.

The older you get, the more calcium you should be getting to help maintain bone density. That’s why we have a discount just for seniors!

Although they need less calcium to maintain bone density, it’s important for young children to have a calcium-healthy diet to help them build optimal bone mass for later in life.

Women are more prone to osteoporosis than men because of hormonal changes related to menopause. Eat more yogurt ladies!
